Chickamauga Creek starts in the very northeastern part of White County. This is where White County meets Habersham County. It begins near State Route 356.

The creek then flows south. It runs alongside the border between White County and Habersham County. As it travels, it passes by the town of Sautee Nacoochee.

Finally, Chickamauga Creek flows into the Chattahoochee River. This meeting point is close to State Route 75. It's also not far from where another creek, Dukes Creek, joins the Chattahoochee River.

Understanding the Creek's Watershed

This map shows Chickamauga Creek and its watershed, which is the area of land where all the water drains into the creek.

Every creek and river has a watershed. A watershed is like a giant bowl where all the rain and snowmelt drain into a specific stream or river. The watershed for Chickamauga Creek is called the Chickamauga Creek sub-watershed.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) keeps track of these areas. They call this specific watershed HUC 031300010104. This watershed covers about 34 square miles. It's located northeast and east of the town of Helen, and north of the Chattahoochee River.

Besides Chickamauga Creek itself, other smaller streams flow into it. These include McClure Creek, Crumley Creek, Bean Creek, and Ben Creek, which join from the west. Nester Branch and Sautee Creek flow into Chickamauga Creek from the east. All these smaller streams help feed water into Chickamauga Creek before it reaches the Chattahoochee River.
