Chickie's & Pete's is a popular American restaurant and bar. It is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The business started as a small local place in 1977. It grew into a famous seafood crab house. Today, it has many locations around the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. In 2011, ESPN named Chickie's & Pete's the best sports bar in North America.

The Story of Chickie's & Pete's

How It All Began

Peter and Henrietta Ciarrocchi owned a deli. In 1977, they bought a small local bar nearby. It was on Robbins Avenue in Philadelphia. The bar was called "Wally's." Peter made some changes to the place. He added stools to the bar, which used to be standing-only. He also allowed women to enter, as it was once "men only." Peter named the bar after himself and his wife, Henrietta. Everyone called Henrietta "Chickie."

Growing the Business

Peter passed away in 1987. His wife, Chickie, encouraged their son, Pete Junior, to take over. She wanted him to try his own business ideas. Pete Junior had a special recipe for crab-seasoned fries. He also had many other ideas. In 1998, Pete Junior made the business much bigger. He bought an old, empty supermarket building. This building was near Veterans Stadium in South Philadelphia. He wanted to create a large sports bar. Its location near Philadelphia's sports venues was perfect.

New Products and Partnerships

In February 2016, a company called Herr Foods Inc. teamed up with Chickie's & Pete's. They released special potato chips. These chips tasted like Chickie's & Pete's famous Crabfries.
