About Chinese Peak
Chinese Peak stands at an elevation of 6,791 feet (2,070 meters). This makes it the 1069th highest mountain in the state of Idaho. An elevation is how high a point is above sea level.
The mountain is a great spot for outdoor activities. Many people enjoy riding bikes or hiking up the trail to reach the summit. From the top, you can see amazing views of the surrounding area. The fire lookout helps to spot wildfires and keep the forests safe.
A New Name for the Peak
Chinese Peak was not always known by this name. In the past, it had a different, disrespectful name. This earlier name was given because a Chinese man died near the summit in the 1890s.
Over time, people realized that the old name was offensive. It used a word that was a slur against people of Chinese descent. To fix this, the Geographic Names Information System officially changed the name to Chinese Peak in 2001. This change made sure the mountain's name was respectful to everyone.
