Chisholm is a suburb in New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the City of Maitland. Chisholm is about 23 kilometers (14 miles) north-northwest of Newcastle. It is also about 7 kilometers (4 miles) south-east of Maitland.
The Wonnarua people are the traditional owners of the land in the Maitland area. In 2016, nearly 1,500 people lived in Chisholm. There are plans to build many more homes. This could allow about 15,000 more people to live there in the future.

Who Lives in Chisholm?
In 2016, a study called the Census found that 1,461 people lived in Chisholm. Most people (88%) were born in Australia. Also, most people (92.6%) spoke only English at home. The most common religions were Catholic (32.2%), Anglican (24.3%), and No Religion (22.2%).
Where is Chisholm Located?
Chisholm is on a low ridge. This ridge slopes down to nearby floodplains and wetlands. It is also close to the Hunter River. Raymond Terrace Road forms the southern border of Chisholm. Mcfarlanes Road is its eastern border. To the north and west, Chisholm borders a natural waterway and wetlands.
Getting Around Chisholm
As of 2015, Chisholm has a bus route (number 189). This bus goes from Thornton to Stockland Green Hills. It stops at a few places in Chisholm:
- Corner of Settlers Boulevard and Raymond Terrace Road (on the Thornton side)
- Settlers Boulevard near the roundabout
- Grasshawk Drive at St. Aloysius Catholic Primary School
The closest train station for residents is Thornton railway station.
Schools and Services
The first school in Chisholm is St. Aloysius Catholic Primary School. For public primary school, students usually go to Thornton Public School. For high school, Francis Greenway High School is the closest public option.
In 2018, St. Bede's Catholic College opened. This college helps meet the need for Catholic education in the Maitland area. St. Bede's Catholic College is next to St. Aloysius Catholic Primary School. There is also a child care center called St Nicholas Early Education next to St. Aloysius. Chisholm has two other child care centers as well.
In September 2022, the Maitland City Council approved plans for a new shopping center. It will be called Chisholm Plaza. The plan included two supermarkets, a bottle shop, cafes, and restaurants. It also planned for a tavern and 40 other shops. The site would also have medical facilities, another early education center, a gym, and a swim school. Construction was supposed to start in April 2023. However, it has not started yet. Residents are hoping construction will begin soon.
