Christopher O'Shea Cook (born February 15, 1987) is an American former professional football player. He played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). Chris Cook played college football for the Virginia Cavaliers. The Minnesota Vikings picked him in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football

Chris Cook grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia. He went to Heritage High School. In high school, he was a very versatile player. He played many different positions on the football field.

On offense, he played as a running back, wide receiver, and even quarterback. In his senior year, he ran for 789 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 250 yards and three more touchdowns. He even threw six touchdown passes!

On defense, he played as a cornerback. When he was a junior, he was named a first-team all-state defensive back. That year, he made over 50 tackles and caught eight interceptions. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player. Chris was considered a good player by scouts. He chose to go to the University of Virginia for college.

College Football Career

Chris Cook played college football for the Virginia Cavaliers. He started 31 of the 38 games he played. During his college career, he made 143 tackles. He also had 19 pass breakups and seven interceptions. Two of his interceptions were returned for touchdowns. This means he ran all the way to the end zone after catching the ball.

His best season was his senior year. He made 40 tackles and had a team-high four interceptions. One of these interceptions he returned for a touchdown. He also deflected six passes. Deflecting a pass means he knocked the ball away so the other team couldn't catch it.

Playing in the NFL

Chris Cook was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was the 34th player picked overall. This was a big achievement for him.

Time with the Minnesota Vikings

Cook played for the Vikings from 2010 to 2013. He was an important part of their defense. In a game in 2013, he was removed from the game for contact with an official.

Playing for the San Francisco 49ers

After his time with the Vikings, Chris Cook joined the San Francisco 49ers. He signed a one-year contract with them on March 14, 2014. He signed another one-year contract with the 49ers in 2015. He was released by the team on August 5, 2015.
