Christopher Andrew Tsangarides (born 17 August 1956 – died 6 January 2018) was a British record producer and sound engineer. He was also a mixer. Chris was known for working with many heavy metal bands. These included Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, and Helloween.
He also worked with pop and alternative artists. Some of these were Depeche Mode, Tom Jones, and the Tragically Hip.

Chris Tsangarides' Music Career
Chris Tsangarides started learning piano as a child. He later studied trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1974, he began his music career. He started as an apprentice at Morgan Studios in London. This was a big recording studio in the UK.
At first, he helped with tapes. His first job as a sound engineer was in 1976. He worked on Judas Priest's second album, Sad Wings of Destiny. In 1977, he engineered a hit pop song. This success led to more work as an engineer. He worked on albums for new wave bands like Japan. He also worked on jazz fusion albums.
Chris became friends with guitarist Gary Moore. Gary asked him to produce his solo album in 1978. This was Back on the Streets. This was Chris's first job as a producer. A song from this album, "Parisienne Walkways", became a hit. Chris continued to work with Gary Moore for many years.
In 1980, Morgan Studios changed owners and became Battery Studios. Chris was hired as an "in-house producer." He worked with other famous producers there.
During the 1980s and 1990s, Chris became very well-known. He was famous for his work in hard rock and heavy metal. He produced many important albums. These included Anvil's Metal on Metal in 1982. He also produced Thin Lizzy's last album, Thunder and Lightning in 1983. In 1990, he produced Painkiller for Judas Priest. This album was even nominated for a Grammy Award.
He also worked with Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, and Helloween. Chris produced Bruce Dickinson's first solo album in 1990.
Besides metal, Chris recorded songs for other artists. He worked with singer Joan Armatrading and pop star Tom Jones. In 1987, he remixed a song for the band Depeche Mode.
In the 1990s, Chris kept working with metal bands. He worked with Exodus and Overkill. He also produced for gothic rock and alternative rock groups. These included the Sisters of Mercy and the Tragically Hip. For the band Concrete Blonde, he produced their hit song "Joey" in 1990.
In the early 2000s, Chris had his own music company. It was called Rainmaker Music. He also had a recording studio with the same name. Later, he opened another studio called The Dump. Bands like New Model Army recorded there.
In 2006, Chris opened a new studio. It was called Ecology Room Studios in Kent, England. He helped new and famous bands record music there. Bands like The Strawbs and Mountain recorded at his new studio.
Chris was featured in a movie called Anvil! The Story of Anvil in 2009. The movie showed him working on the album This Is Thirteen with the band Anvil.
From 2010 to 2013, Chris worked with Band Complete. He helped students learn about recording music. He was a mentor and producer for their EPs.
In 2012, Chris started a new record label. It was called Dark Lord Records. He started it with Dave Cousins from The Strawbs.
Chris sometimes played guitar live with the band Exmore / More 2012.
He passed away on 7 January 2018, at the age of 61. He died from pneumonia and heart failure.
Chris Tsangarides' Special Techniques
Chris Tsangarides was known for a special guitar recording technique. He called it "the vortex." He first used it in 1977. This technique made the guitar sound like it was moving around. It created a special effect similar to an echo. He did this by placing microphones in a unique way.
