Christian is one of the fastest sprinters ever. He holds the world record for the indoor 60 meters, finishing in an amazing 6.34 seconds. His best time for the 100 meters is 9.76 seconds, making him the sixth fastest person in history for that event. He also ran the 200 meters in 19.85 seconds. Christian was the top-ranked 100-meter runner in the world for three years in a row: 2017, 2018, and 2019.

He represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the relay race. He won a gold medal in the 60 meters at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Christian has also won two national championships in the U.S. He competed for the Tennessee Volunteers in college. There, he won five national titles and set new college records in the 60 meters and 100 meters.

Christian Coleman had a period from May 2020 to November 2021 when he could not compete. This was due to rules about athlete testing.

Early Life and High School Years

Christian Coleman was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents are Seth and Daphne Coleman. He grew up with two sisters, Camryn and Cailyn. Sports were a big part of his family. His cousins played college football, and his older sister Camryn ran track and field in college.

Christian started track at a young age. He won the long jump at the Amateur Athletic Union Championships in 2007. He went to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Fayetteville, Georgia. He was a star on his high school track team.

In his final year of high school, he was a finalist in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. He won four events at the Georgia High School State Championships. These included the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump, and 4 × 100-meter relay. He also set new state high school records in these events. Besides track, he was also a great football player. He played as a defensive back and wide receiver. After high school, Christian received a special scholarship and went to the University of Tennessee.

College Track Star

At the University of Tennessee, Christian Coleman quickly became a top athlete. In 2016, he won the 60 meters and was second in the 200 meters at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He then won the 200 meters at the National Indoor Championships. He also placed third in the 60 meters. In outdoor events, he was the runner-up in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Christian continued his amazing success in his junior year. He set personal bests and achieved world-leading times in the 60 meters and 200 meters. He won gold in both events at the 2017 Indoor National Track and Field Championships. He tied the college record in the 60 meters with 6.45 seconds. He ran the 200 meters in 20.11 seconds, almost breaking another college record.

Christian finished his college career by winning the 100 meters and 200 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He became one of only two people from Tennessee to win all four sprint titles (60m, 200m indoor; 100m, 200m outdoor).

Christian also gained attention when he ran the 40-yard dash. After football player John Ross set a new record at the NFL Scouting Combine, Christian ran the 40 yards even faster. He finished in 4.12 seconds on turf. In 2017, Christian Coleman won The Bowerman award. This award honors the best college track and field athlete of the year.
