Christian Coral Cleveland Covington, born on October 16, 1993, is a Canadian professional football player. He plays as a defensive end for the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Christian played college football at Rice University. He was chosen by the Houston Texans in the 2015 NFL draft. He has also played for several other NFL teams. These include the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers, and Detroit Lions.

Christian Covington's Early Life
Christian Covington was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He went to Vancouver College for high school.
High School Football Success
During his senior year, Christian helped his team win the Provincial Championship. He made 83 tackles and 15 sacks. He also recovered 6 fumbles and scored 2 defensive touchdowns.
He was named the Provincial Defensive MVP. He also received honors for being a first-team All-Canadian and Academic All-Canadian. By the end of his high school career, he had an impressive 276 tackles and 38 sacks.
College Football Career
Christian received a football scholarship to Rice University.
Starting at Rice
In 2011, as a freshman, he played in 12 games as a defensive tackle. He had 43 tackles and 5 sacks. He also hurried the opposing quarterback 20 times.
In 2013, during his sophomore year, he became the starting nose tackle. He earned first-team All–C-USA honors. He helped his school win its first football conference title in 56 years. Even with a thumb injury, he played in 14 games. He recorded 59 tackles and 4 sacks.
Junior Year and NFL Draft
In 2014, his junior year, he played in seven games. He made 20 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He had a knee injury in the eighth game, which ended his season early.
After this season, he decided to enter the 2015 NFL draft. He finished his college career with 33 games played. He had 119 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles.
Professional Football Journey
Christian Covington was drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL draft. The BC Lions also picked him in the 2015 CFL Draft.
Houston Texans (2015–2018)
As a rookie in 2015, Christian played in 15 games for the Texans. He was a backup defensive end. He made 8 tackles and 2 sacks.
In 2016, he played in all 16 games and started 5 of them. He had 26 tackles and 1 sack. In the final game of the season, he had 5 tackles and 1 sack against the Tennessee Titans.
In 2017, he played in 7 games and started 2. He recorded 16 tackles and 1 sack. He suffered a torn bicep injury in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks. This injury ended his season early.
In 2018, he started 2 out of 12 games. He collected 15 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He had a great game against the Titans, with 4 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Dallas Cowboys (2019)
On March 14, 2019, Christian signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. He played as a backup defensive tackle. He appeared in all 16 games and started 6 of them. He made 26 tackles and 1 sack.
Denver Broncos (2020)
On April 28, 2020, Christian signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos.
Cincinnati Bengals (2020)
On September 4, 2020, Christian was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. He was expected to be a backup nose tackle. He played in all 16 games and started 14 of them. He finished the season with a career-high 39 tackles.
Los Angeles Chargers (First Time: 2021–2022)

Christian signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on May 11, 2021. He played in 16 games and started 3. He collected 52 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble.
He re-signed with the Chargers on March 17, 2022. He was released in August but signed to their practice squad the next day. He was later promoted to the main team. He suffered a torn pectoral muscle in November 2022, which ended his season. He played in 4 games and made 12 tackles.
Detroit Lions (2023)
On May 10, 2023, Christian signed with the Detroit Lions. He was released in August 2023.
Los Angeles Chargers (Second Time: 2023)
On August 30, 2023, Christian was signed to the Chargers practice squad again. His contract ended at the end of the season.
BC Lions (2024–Present)
On May 1, 2024, it was announced that Christian Covington had signed with the BC Lions. He is currently playing for them.
Christian's Family Life
Christian's father is Grover Covington. Grover is a famous player in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He holds the record for the most sacks in CFL history (157). He is also a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
