Christian Darrisaw, born on June 2, 1999, is an American professional football player. He plays as an offensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Virginia Tech before joining the Vikings.
Christian Darrisaw's Early Life
Christian Darrisaw was born in Petersburg, Virginia. He went to Riverdale Baptist School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. There, he played left tackle on the school's football team.
He wanted to play college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Virginia Tech was the only major college team to offer him a spot. Before joining Virginia Tech, he attended Fork Union Military Academy to improve his academics.
Darrisaw joined Virginia Tech in 2018. He quickly became the starting left tackle for the Hokies. He started every game during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. In 2020, he was named to the first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference team. This means he was one of the best players in his college league.
Becoming a Pro Football Player
After the 2020 college season, Christian Darrisaw decided to enter the 2021 NFL draft. This is where NFL teams pick new players from colleges. The Minnesota Vikings chose him in the first round, as the 23rd overall pick.
Playing for the Minnesota Vikings
On May 14, 2021, Darrisaw signed his first four-year contract with the Vikings. He missed the first four games of his first year due to a groin injury. As a rookie, he played in 12 games and started 10 of them.
In the 2022 season, he played and started in 14 games. In the 2023 season, he played and started in 15 games.
On April 29, 2024, the Vikings decided to keep Darrisaw for an extra year on his contract. Then, on July 23, 2024, the Vikings and Darrisaw agreed to a new four-year contract. This new deal was worth up to $113 million.
In Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season, Darrisaw got a knee injury during a game. He was unable to play for the rest of that season.
