Christian Soucy, born on September 14, 1970, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goalie. He played in one game in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1993–94 season. Most of his career, which lasted from 1993 to 2003, was spent playing in smaller hockey leagues.

Early Life and Youth Hockey

Christian Soucy was born in Gatineau, Quebec, a city in Canada. When he was a young hockey player, he took part in the 1983 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. He played with a youth team from his hometown of Gatineau.

Hockey Career Highlights

Christian Soucy joined the Chicago Blackhawks after playing two years for the University of Vermont's men's hockey team. At the university, he was one of the top goalies. He ranks fifth all-time for his save percentage (.908) and goals against average (2.99).

NHL Debut

Soucy played in just one National Hockey League game. This happened on March 31, 1994, against the Washington Capitals. He was on the ice for less than four minutes. During this short time, no shots were taken against him. His brief appearance was later surpassed by another player, Jorge Alves, who played for only 7.6 seconds in his only NHL game on December 31, 2016.

Playing in Minor Leagues

Even though his NHL time was short, Christian Soucy had a long career in hockey. For 10 years, he played in many different minor leagues. These leagues included the International Hockey League, the American Hockey League, the ECHL, and the Central Hockey League. He played for various teams in these leagues from 1993 until 2003.

Awards and Achievements

During his college hockey career, Christian Soucy received several awards.

  • In the 1991–92 season, he was named to the All-ECAC Hockey Rookie Team. This means he was one of the best new players in the league.
  • He was also selected for the All-ECAC Hockey First Team in the same 1991–92 season.
  • The AHCA also recognized him as an East Second-Team All-American in 1991–92.
  • In the 1992–93 season, he was named to the All-ECAC Hockey Second Team.
