Christian Soucy (born September 14, 1970) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played as a goaltender, which is the player who defends the team's goal. He played one game in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1993–94 season. Most of his career, which lasted from 1993 to 2003, was spent playing in various minor hockey leagues.
Early Life and Youth Hockey
Christian Soucy was born in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. When he was young, he loved playing hockey. In 1983, he even played in the famous Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. This is a big event for young hockey players from all over the world. He played with a youth team from his hometown of Gatineau.
Playing Career
Christian Soucy started his journey in professional hockey after playing for the University of Vermont's men's hockey team for two years. He was a very good college player. In fact, he ranks fifth all-time at the university for his save percentage (.908) and goals against average (2.99). These numbers show how well he stopped shots and prevented goals.
His big moment in the National Hockey League (NHL) came on March 31, 1994. He played for the Chicago Blackhawks against the Washington Capitals. Even though he was on the ice for less than four minutes, it was his only NHL game. During that short time, no shots were taken against him. Another player, Jorge Alves, later played an even shorter NHL game in 2016.
After his brief time in the NHL, Soucy spent 10 years playing in different minor hockey leagues. These leagues are professional, but they are not as big as the NHL. He played in leagues like the International Hockey League, the American Hockey League, the ECHL, and the Central Hockey League. Playing in these leagues allowed him to continue his professional hockey career for many years.
