Christian Marquise Wood (born September 27, 1995) is an American professional basketball player. He last played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also played college basketball for the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. Christian has played for several NBA teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks.

Early Life and High School
Christian Wood was born and grew up in Long Beach, California. He started high school at Los Alamitos High School. Later, he moved to Knight High School in Palmdale, California. For his senior year, he transferred to Findlay College Prep in Henderson, Nevada.
At Findlay Prep, Christian helped his team win 54 games in a row. They also won a national high school championship in 2012. Experts ranked him as one of the top basketball players in his high school class.
College Career
Christian Wood played college basketball at UNLV from 2013 to 2015. In his first year, he played in 30 games. He averaged 4.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
In his second year, he played in 33 games. He greatly improved, averaging 15.7 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game. Because of his great performance, he was named to the First-team All-MWC. After this successful season, Wood decided to enter the 2015 NBA draft.
Professional Career
Starting in the NBA
Christian Wood was expected to be picked in the NBA draft. However, he was not chosen by any team in the 2015 NBA draft. After the draft, he joined the Houston Rockets for the 2015 NBA Summer League.
On September 27, 2015, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. He played his first NBA game on October 28, getting two rebounds in five minutes. During his first season, he also played many games for the Delaware 87ers. This team is part of the NBA G League, which is like a development league for the NBA.
Moving Between Teams

Christian spent time with the Delaware 87ers and the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016. He would sign short contracts with the 76ers, then return to the 87ers. In July 2016, he played for the 76ers again in the 2016 NBA Summer League.
On July 14, 2016, Wood signed with the Charlotte Hornets. He made his debut for the Hornets on November 7. He also played for the Greensboro Swarm, another NBA G League team, during this time.
After his second NBA season, Wood became a free agent. He joined the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns for the 2017 NBA Summer League. His Mavericks team won the Summer League Championship in Orlando that year.
In August 2017, Wood signed with a team in China, the Fujian Sturgeons. But he never played for them and returned to the Delaware 87ers.
Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans
On August 14, 2018, Christian Wood signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. He played for them until March 2019.
Two days later, on March 20, 2019, the New Orleans Pelicans picked him up. This was a big chance for Wood to play more. He made his debut with the Pelicans on March 24. On March 26, he had a great game, scoring 23 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and blocking six shots. He was released by the Pelicans in July 2019.
Detroit Pistons
On July 17, 2019, the Detroit Pistons claimed Christian Wood. He played a significant role for the team.
In March 2020, during the global health situation, Wood tested positive for a virus. He had played against Rudy Gobert, who was the first NBA player to test positive.
Houston Rockets
On November 24, 2020, Christian Wood signed a new contract and was traded to the Houston Rockets. He made a strong debut for the Rockets on December 26, scoring 31 points and getting 13 rebounds.
During a game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Wood hurt his right ankle. Without him, the Rockets struggled and lost 17 games in a row. In January 2022, the Rockets suspended Wood for one game due to his behavior. On March 21, he had his best game ever, scoring 39 points and making eight three-pointers. He missed the rest of that season due to a hamstring injury.
Dallas Mavericks
On June 24, 2022, Wood was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. He quickly made an impact, becoming the first player in Mavericks history to score at least 25 points in his first two games.
On December 25, 2022, in his first Christmas Day game, Wood had an impressive performance. He scored 30 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and had 7 assists in a win against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Los Angeles Lakers
On September 6, 2023, Christian Wood signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. He played in 50 games during the 2023–24 season, averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds. He was sidelined for the last two months of that season because of a left knee injury. He had a procedure on his knee in March 2024.
Wood decided to stay with the Lakers for another season. He had another knee procedure in September 2024. On February 11, 2025, the Lakers released Wood.
