Chuba Robert-Shamar Hubbard (CHOO-bə), born on June 11, 1999, is a Canadian professional football player. He plays as a running back for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League (NFL).
Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. In 2019, he was recognized as a unanimous All-American. He also won the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award and the Jon Cornish Trophy that year. The Panthers picked Hubbard in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football
Chuba Hubbard was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His father is Nigerian and his mother is Canadian. Later, his family moved to Sherwood Park.
Chuba went to Bev Facey Community High School. There, he played Canadian football for three years. During his time in high school, he ran for an amazing 6,880 yards. He also scored 82 touchdowns. After high school, he decided to play college football in the United States at Oklahoma State University.
College Football Career
Chuba Hubbard started his college career at Oklahoma State in 2017. He spent his first year as a redshirt, meaning he practiced with the team but did not play in games.
First Seasons at Oklahoma State
In 2018, Chuba played in 13 games. He ran for 740 yards and scored seven touchdowns. He became the main running back for Oklahoma State in 2019. That year was outstanding for him. He rushed for 2,094 yards and scored 21 touchdowns.
Many people thought he would join the NFL draft after this great season. However, Chuba decided to stay in college for another year. He was awarded the Jon Cornish Trophy again. This award goes to the best Canadian player in NCAA football.

Professional NFL Career
Chuba Hubbard was chosen by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft. He was the 126th player picked overall. He also got picked by the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) draft. However, he chose to sign a four-year contract with the Panthers on May 6, 2021. This contract was worth $4.2 million.
First Seasons with the Panthers
Chuba made his NFL debut in the first game of the 2021 season. In Week 5, he had a great game against the Philadelphia Eagles, running for 101 yards. He finished his first NFL season with 612 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. He also caught 25 passes for 174 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He played in all 17 games and started ten of them.
In the 2022 season, Chuba continued to show his skills. In Week 16, he ran for 125 yards in a win against the Detroit Lions. He ended the 2022 season with 466 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also had 171 receiving yards.
Taking on a Starting Role
At the start of the 2023 season, Chuba was listed as the second running back. But in Week 6, he became the starter when another player was out. He ran for 88 yards and scored a touchdown. This was the best performance by a Panthers running back that season. Even when the other player returned, Chuba kept his starting role.
In Week 12, he ran for 45 yards and a touchdown, and also caught 5 passes for 47 yards. The following week, he had an impressive game with 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns. In Week 17, Chuba reached 1,000 total yards from scrimmage for the first time in his NFL career.
Recent Achievements
On November 7, 2024, the Panthers signed Chuba Hubbard to a new four-year contract extension. This deal was worth $33.2 million, with $15 million guaranteed. In Week 12, Chuba reached 1,000 scrimmage yards for the second season in a row.
In Week 16, he had an amazing game, running for 152 yards and scoring two touchdowns in an overtime win. This performance earned him the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award. On December 28, Chuba was placed on injured reserve due to knee and calf injuries, which ended his season. He finished the season with 1,195 rushing yards, 171 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns in 15 starts.
