A Special Church in Chiloé
The Church of Ichuac is very important. In 1999, it was named a National Monument of Chile. This means it's a protected historical site. Just one year later, on November 30, 2000, it received an even bigger honor. It became one of the 16 Churches of Chiloé recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This makes it a special place for the whole world to protect and admire.
Caring for the Church
In the early 1990s, the people living in Ichuac worked together. They wanted to fix up their beloved church. Thanks to their efforts, the church is now in great shape. It stands as a symbol of their community spirit.
The Virgin of Candelaria
The church has a special protector called a patron saint. The patron saint of the Church of Ichuac is the Virgin of Candelaria. Every year, on February 2, the community celebrates her feast day. This is a day of joy and tradition for the people of Ichuac.
Part of a Larger Family
The Church of Ichuac belongs to a larger church group called the parish of San Pedro Nolasco. This parish is in Puqueldón. It's one of 24 parishes that make up the Diocese of Ancud. A diocese is like a big family of churches in a certain area, led by a bishop.
