The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows of Dalcahue (in Spanish, Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Dalcahue) is a beautiful Catholic church. You can find it in the main square of Dalcahue, a town on Chiloé Island in Chile.
This church is very important. It was built in the late 1800s. Before that, a chapel from a Jesuit mission stood in the same spot.

What Makes It Special?
The church has received two very important titles. In 1971, it was named a National Monument of Chile. This means it is a protected historical site in Chile.
Even more special, on November 30, 2000, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a big deal! It means the church is considered important for all of humanity. It is one of 16 churches on Chiloé Island that share this honor. These churches are known as the Churches of Chiloé.
A Look Back in Time
The church you see today was built towards the end of the 19th century. It stands where a much older chapel used to be. That first chapel was part of a mission run by the Jesuits. The Jesuits were a group of Catholic priests who traveled the world. They built churches and schools to teach people about Christianity.
Part of a Bigger Family
The Church of Dalcahue is also a leading church in its area. It is one of 24 parishes. A parish is like a local church community. All these parishes together form the Diocese of Ancud. A diocese is a larger area managed by a bishop in the Catholic Church.
