A Look Back: Churchlands' History
Churchlands got its name because of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1891, the Church bought this land from the Trigg family. That's how "Churchlands" became the name of this area.

Former University Campus
Churchlands was once home to a campus of Edith Cowan University. This university campus closed in 2008.
Before becoming part of Edith Cowan University in 1991, the site had other names. It was the Churchlands Teachers College from 1972 to 1981. Then it was the Churchlands campus of the Western Australian College of Advanced Education from 1982 to 1990. The university's main office was located here until 2003.
Today, the land where the university stood has new homes. This area is now called the Churchlands Green housing estate. A small part of the site, including an outdoor theater, is now Edith Cowan Reserve. This reserve helps remember the former university campus.
