Cibolo Creek Ranch is a famous historic place in Presidio County, Texas, United States. It started as a cattle ranch before the American Civil War. Today, it's used for hunting and as a cool spot for making movies. The ranch also has an old fort called El Fortin del Cibolo. This fort has been made into a fancy hotel with tall watchtowers and super thick walls made of adobe bricks.

Where is Cibolo Creek Ranch?

The ranch is located in the Chinati Mountains. These mountains are part of the Chihuahuan Desert, which is a big desert area. It's close to a town called Shafter, Texas. The ranch is about 15 miles east of the border between Mexico and the United States.

Cibolo Creek Ranch covers a huge area of 30,000 acres. A main road, U.S. Route 67, goes right through the property. There's even a small airport for the ranch, about 3.5 miles northeast of the hotel.

A man named Milton Faver started the ranch in the 1850s. He built three strong adobe forts on the land. These forts were named El Cibolo, La Cienega, and La Morita. He built them to protect the ranch from the Apache people. Faver raised a huge number of cattle, about 200,000 Texas Longhorns.

Cibolo Creek Ranch in Movies

Since the 1950s, Cibolo Creek Ranch has been a popular place for making movies. For example, the movie Giant was filmed there in 1956. More recently, other movies have used the ranch as a filming spot. These include The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005), There Will Be Blood (2007), and No Country for Old Men (2007).

In 1994, a wildfire spread across 1,700 acres of the ranch. In May 1999, the ranch hosted the wedding of country music stars Charlie Robison and Emily Robison. Emily Robison is a member of the famous band Dixie Chicks.
