History of Claim Jumper Restaurants
Claim Jumper was started by a person named Craig Nickoloff. He opened the very first restaurant in Los Alamitos, California, on September 27, 1977. This first restaurant had a huge menu. Its look and feel were inspired by the exciting Gold Rush of 1849 in California.
Claim Jumper Joins Landry's, Inc.
In September 2010, Claim Jumper faced financial problems. It was going to be sold to a new owner. In October 2010, another company called Landry's, Inc. bought Claim Jumper. They paid $76.6 million for the restaurant chain.
After the purchase, Landry's CEO, Tilman J. Fertitta, moved Claim Jumper's main office. It moved from Irvine, California, to Landry's main office in Houston.
Franchised Claim Jumper Locations
Most Claim Jumper restaurants are run by a company called Kelly Restaurant Group (KRG). These are called "franchised" locations. As of August 2023, KRG had restaurants in California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, some Claim Jumper locations closed. This happened because part of their business was a buffet, which became difficult to operate safely. Some of the closed locations included those in Long Beach, California, Valencia, California, Nashville, Tennessee, and Lynnwood, Washington.
Claim Jumper Locations Owned by Landry's
Three Claim Jumper restaurants are still owned and run directly by Landry's. These special locations are found inside Golden Nugget hotels. You can find them in Laughlin, Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Lake Charles, Louisiana. These are also the only Claim Jumper restaurants that are part of the Landry's Select Club rewards program.
