Clara Amfo is a British radio and TV presenter, a podcast host, and a voice-over artist. She is famous for hosting shows on BBC Radio 1.

Clara Amfo's Early Life
Clara Amfo was born to parents from Ghana. She grew up with five brothers and sisters. Her father, who passed away in 2015, worked as a microbiologist for the NHS (National Health Service). Her mother worked as a hospital cleaner. After finishing Holy Cross School, Clara studied media arts. She also focused on professional and creative writing at St Mary's University College.
Clara Amfo's Career
Clara Amfo began her career as a marketing intern at Kiss FM. She hosted British movie premieres for films like Baby Driver and Marvel's Black Panther. Clara also reported from big music events in the UK. These included festivals like Wireless, Global Gathering, SW4, and NASS. In 2012, she was nominated for a Sony Radio Award. This award was in the Rising Star category.
Joining BBC Radio
In September 2013, Clara joined BBC Radio 1Xtra. She became the host of their weekend breakfast show. That same year, she started hosting MTV's weekly Official UK Top 40 and Top 20 Chart shows. She also presented The Official Chart Update. In 2015, Clara Amfo became the host of The Official Chart on BBC Radio 1.
In February 2015, it was announced that Clara would take over from Fearne Cotton. She became the host of Radio 1's weekday mid-morning show. This show is famous for its Live Lounge sessions. She started this new role on May 25, 2015. This meant she left her weekend breakfast show on 1Xtra.
TV Appearances and Important Moments
In July 2016, Clara Amfo became the narrator for Coach Trip on E4. She presented backstage at the BRIT Awards for ITV2 in February 2017. In December 2017, she co-presented The Year in Music 2017 with Claudia Winkleman on BBC Two. She also hosted Top of the Pops for the first time with Fearne Cotton on BBC One. Clara returned to the BRIT Awards backstage for ITV2 in February 2018.
In June 2020, Clara was widely praised for a speech she made. This speech was on her mid-morning show on BBC Radio 1. She spoke about the murder of George Floyd, racism, and how it affected her own mental health.
Dancing and New Shows
In September 2020, Clara Amfo competed on Strictly Come Dancing. She was partnered with Aljaž Škorjanec. They were eliminated in week 6 of the competition. Judge Motsi Mabuse called her elimination the "toughest decision" of the series. Later that year, Clara co-hosted Fashioned. This series explored how fashion history connects to social movements.
In February 2021, the paint company Dulux announced Clara as their ambassador. She represented the Dulux Colour of the Year 2021, called Brave Ground. Clara began presenting the Future Sounds show on Radio 1 from July 30, 2021. She took over from Annie Mac, who left the station. Rickie, Melvin, and Charlie then took over Clara's Live Lounge show.
In June 2021, Clara appeared with her brother, Andy, on Celebrity Gogglebox. In December 2021, Clara appeared on the revived series of The Weakest Link. She won that episode.
In February 2022, she was a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs. the World. In December 2023, Clara Amfo and Raye were guest mentors for team Anne-Marie on The Voice UK.
Recent Work
In March 2024, Clara Amfo presented her final Future Sounds program on BBC Radio 1. In May 2024, she started hosting Studio Sessions on ITV. In this show, artists perform for a special audience at the O2 Arena. Clara interviews the artists between their songs. Some artists she has interviewed include Becky Hill and Jess Glynne.
