Claudia Anne Irena Winkleman (born 15 January 1972) is a famous English TV presenter and writer. She is well-known for co-hosting the popular BBC One dancing show Strictly Come Dancing since 2010. She has been nominated for a BAFTA award for this show many times. Claudia also won a BAFTA for presenting the BBC One reality show The Traitors, which started in 2022. Before her TV success, she hosted a Saturday morning radio show on BBC Radio 2.

Early life and education
Claudia Winkleman was born in Westminster, London, on 15 January 1972. Her mother is author and journalist Eve Pollard, and her father is Barry Winkleman. She grew up in Hampstead, London. When she was three, her parents divorced. Both of them remarried when she was seven. Her mother married newspaper editor Nicholas Lloyd. Her father married children's author Cindy Black.
Claudia has a younger half-sister, actress Sophie Winkleman, from her father's second marriage. Sophie is married to Lord Frederick Windsor. Claudia also has a younger half-brother, Oliver, from her mother's second marriage. Claudia went to the City of London School for Girls. She then studied art history at New Hall, Cambridge, where she earned a Master of Arts degree.
Television career highlights
Early career (1991–2000)
Claudia started her TV career in 1992 on the BBC series Holiday. She traveled the world for 34 days, reporting from places like Japan and India. During this time, she also worked as a reporter for other shows. She interviewed many celebrities on This Morning. In the late 1990s, Claudia presented shows on smaller digital channels. She also hosted game shows like God's Gift and Talking Telephone Numbers.
Becoming a familiar face (2001–2006)
In 2001, Claudia got a bigger TV job on Central Weekend. From 2002 to 2004, she hosted Liquid News on BBC Three. This show featured interviews with celebrities. In 2003, she presented a daily update show for Fame Academy on BBC Three. She did this again in 2005 for Comic Relief Does Fame Academy. Also in 2005, Claudia started hosting Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two. This is a show that goes along with Strictly Come Dancing.
Prime time and big shows (2007–2012)
Claudia began presenting many popular shows in the evenings. In 2007, she hosted Comic Relief Does Fame Academy with Patrick Kielty. She also co-hosted the Eurovision Dance Contest in 2007 and 2008 for BBC One. She worked with Graham Norton on this show. In 2008, she co-presented the UK's selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Claudia also covered the Academy Awards for Sky Movie Premiere in 2007 and 2008. She appeared as a guest on many panel shows. These included Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Would I Lie to You?. In 2009, she became the host of Hell's Kitchen on ITV1. In 2010, she became one of the new presenters for the Film programme.
Recent work (Since 2013)
In 2013, Claudia started presenting The Great British Sewing Bee on BBC Two. This was a competition show about sewing. She hosted it until 2016. In 2016, she presented a special show called Bublé at the BBC with Michael Bublé.
From 2018, she presented Britain's Best Home Cook for BBC One. In 2023, Claudia hosted The Piano on Channel 4. This competition show gave amateur pianists a chance to perform at London's Royal Festival Hall.
Strictly Come Dancing
Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two is a show that goes with Strictly Come Dancing. It talks about everything happening in the main competition. Claudia hosted this show from the very beginning. She would discuss the dances with experts and the contestants. The show is on BBC Two every weekday during the series. In 2011, Zoe Ball took over as host of It Takes Two.
In 2010, Claudia became a co-host of the Sunday night results show for Strictly Come Dancing. She presented it with Tess Daly. In 2014, Claudia's role on Strictly Come Dancing became even bigger. She became the main host of the show, after Bruce Forsyth left.
Writing career
Claudia started her writing career as a travel writer. She wrote columns about her trips around the world. Her articles appeared in newspapers like The Sunday Times and The Independent. As her TV career grew, she traveled less. She then started writing more general articles about life and relationships. She wrote for magazines like Cosmopolitan and Tatler. From 2005 to 2008, she had a regular weekly column in The Independent.
Radio work
In 2008, Claudia hosted a six-part comedy quiz series called Hot Gossip. It was broadcast on BBC Radio 2. She also hosted a weekly show on BBC Radio 2 called Claudia Winkleman's Arts Show. This show featured interviews with people from the arts world. She also filled in for other presenters like Dermot O'Leary and Ken Bruce.
In 2016, she started her own Sunday night show on BBC Radio 2 called Claudia on Sunday. This show ran until 2020. In 2020, it was announced that Claudia would take over the Saturday mid-morning slot on BBC Radio 2. She hosted this popular show until March 2024.
Charity work

Claudia Winkleman has supported many charities. In 2007, she helped answer phones for the Disasters Emergency Committee. This was to help people affected by a crisis in Darfur. In May 2007, she helped relaunch The National Missing Persons Campaign. She also supported a Christmas campaign by the charity Refuge. This campaign aimed to stop domestic violence.
In 2011, Claudia was one of the presenters for BBC's Comic Relief. In 2012, she was a judge and host for the FilmNation shorts at the British Film Institute. This project encouraged young people aged 14–25 to get involved in filmmaking.
Personal life
In June 2000, Claudia Winkleman married film producer Kris Thykier. They have three children together.
In October 2014, Claudia's eight-year-old daughter was hurt when her Halloween costume caught fire. Claudia said the costume touched a lit candle in a pumpkin. This incident led to the UK government making safety rules for Halloween costumes stricter.
Her half-sister, Sophie Winkleman, is married to Lord Frederick Windsor. He is a member of the British royal family.
