Clatonia's History

Clatonia became an official town in 1892. This happened when a railroad line was built to reach the area. However, a group of German settlers had already made their homes there around 1869. The village got its name from Clatonia Creek, which flows nearby. The name Clatonia is thought to come from Henry Clay, a famous American statesman. Clatonia was officially recognized as a village in 1893.
