The Story of the Foodimals
Saving the World Again
After saving the world from a giant food storm, inventor Flint Lockwood and his friends are heroes! A famous inventor named Chester V, who Flint looked up to as a kid, offers to help clean up the mess on Swallow Falls. Chester hires Flint to work for his company, Live Corp.
Flint enters a competition at Live Corp, hoping for a promotion. But during his presentation, things go wrong, and he feels very embarrassed.
A New Mission Begins
Chester V then tells Flint that the FLDSMDFR, Flint's food-making machine, is still working! It's now creating amazing food-animal hybrids, or "foodimals." Chester says these foodimals are dangerous and have attacked his workers on Swallow Falls. He tells Flint he must go back to the island alone. Flint's mission is to find the FLDSMDFR and use a special USB stick to turn it off.
But Flint doesn't want to go alone. He gathers his brave friends: his girlfriend Sam Sparks, her cameraman Manny, the strong police officer Earl, Flint's pet monkey Steve, and their friend Brent McHale. Flint's dad, Tim, also insists on helping and takes them to the island in his fishing boat. When Chester V finds out Flint isn't alone, he and his assistant Barb follow them.
Exploring Swallow Falls
While Tim stays on the boat and makes friends with some living pickles, Flint and his team explore the island. It's now a wild jungle filled with foodimals! They see sushi sheep, shrimp chimpanzees, taco crocodiles, and watermelon elephants. They even meet a cute living strawberry they name "Barry."
A giant cheeseburger spider chases Flint and his friends. But then Chester V arrives and scares it away. Chester joins their mission. Sam starts to feel suspicious about Chester. He keeps saying the foodimals are dangerous, but they haven't seen any harm from them. The others start to agree with Sam. Flint is too worried about failing to listen, so Sam and the rest of the gang decide to go off on their own.
Uncovering the Truth
Sam and her friends meet the cheeseburger spider again. They realize she only attacks people wearing Live Corp gear. Manny figures out that "Live" is actually "evil" spelled backward! Just then, a Live Corp security team ambushes them and takes them captive.
Flint, Barb, and Chester finally find the FLDSMDFR. But after meeting some friendly living marshmallows that the machine created, Flint changes his mind. He doesn't want to use the kill code. Chester V gets angry and pushes Flint into a river. The marshmallows rescue Flint, and he reunites with his dad, Tim.
Chester V then uses the device, which turns out to be a hacking tool, to take control of the FLDSMDFR. Flint and Tim realize that without the FLDSMDFR, all the foodimals will disappear. Flint is surprised to learn that the foodimals see him as "Nwoo," their creator, because they watched old videos of him inventing the machine. Inspired, Flint promises to get his machine and his friends back.
The Final Showdown
Tim and the foodimals help Flint and Barry sneak into the Live Corp base. Barry helps free the captive foodimals, who then chase away the Live Corp employees. Chester V tries to trap Flint's friends in his "food bar" machine. He planned to turn all foodimals into food bars! When Barb objects to his cruel plan, Chester fires her.
Flint uses his inventions to overpower Chester and free his friends. Chester tries to escape with the FLDSMDFR, but Barb, fed up with Chester's meanness, steals it back. Chester is then eaten by the cheeseburger spider! Flint returns the FLDSMDFR to its original spot and fixes it.
Flint makes up with Sam, his friends, and Tim. Tim even lets Flint try fishing for the first time. At the end of the movie, the people of Swallow Falls move back home. They learn to live happily with the foodimals, and the FLDSMDFR continues to create them peacefully.
After the Credits
In a short scene after the credits, Barb develops a crush on Steve, Flint's monkey, and tries to ask him on a date.
