Origin of the Cobb Salad
The Cobb salad has an interesting story about how it was created. Many people believe it was invented in 1937. This happened at a famous restaurant called the Hollywood Brown Derby. The restaurant was in California, United States.
The salad is named after the restaurant's owner, Robert Howard Cobb. The story goes that one night, Robert Cobb was very hungry. It was late, almost midnight. He looked for food in the kitchen. He found different leftovers and mixed them all together. He added some bacon that a cook had just made. Then he tossed it with their special French dressing. This mix of ingredients became the first Cobb salad!
Some people say that Robert Kreis, the head chef, actually created the salad. They say he made it in 1929. He named it to honor Robert Cobb. But the most popular story is still about Robert Cobb making it himself in 1937. Either way, it became a very popular dish at the Brown Derby.
