Coden is a small coastal community in southern Alabama, United States. It's like a tiny town that isn't officially part of a city. Coden is a fishing village, meaning many people there work with fishing. It is located in Mobile County, right by the water. You can find it close to another place called Bayou la Batre. It's also across the Mississippi Sound from Dauphin Island.
A Look Back: Coden's History
Coden gets its name from a nearby water channel called Bayou Coden. A "bayou" is a slow-moving stream or a marshy lake. The name "Bayou Coden" is actually an English version of an older French name, "Coq d' Inde."
In the late 1800s, Coden became a popular spot for people to visit. It was known for its "resorts," which were like hotels where people went for vacations. However, a very strong storm called a hurricane hit the area in 1906. This big storm caused a lot of damage and ended the resort business in Coden.
