Colin Campbell, 3rd Earl of Argyll (born around 1486 – died October 9, 1529) was an important Scottish nobleman and soldier. People sometimes called him "Cailen Malloch." He held the title of Earl of Argyll and played a key role in Scottish history.

Colin Campbell's Early Life
Colin Campbell was the son of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll. His mother was Lady Elizabeth Stuart. In 1506 or 1507, he married Lady Jean Gordon. She was the oldest daughter of Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly.
Becoming the Earl of Argyll
Colin became the Earl of Argyll after his father died. This happened on September 9, 1513. This made him a very powerful person in Scotland.
His Role in Scottish Politics
As Earl, Colin Campbell was a strong leader. He led an army to stop a rebellion. This rebellion involved several important leaders from the Scottish Highlands.
Serving King James V
A few years later, Colin joined the court of King James V of Scotland. He became a trusted advisor to the young king.
Important Government Positions
Colin Campbell was given important jobs by the King. He became the Lord Warden of the Marches. This meant he was in charge of protecting Scotland's borders. In 1528, he was also made the Lord Justice General. This was a very high position, like being a chief judge for the whole country.

Colin Campbell died on October 9, 1529. He was buried at Kilmun Parish Church in Cowal, Scotland. His family, the Campbells, lived at Castle Campbell. This castle is near Dollar, Clackmannanshire, in Scotland.
