College Grove is a small, mostly rural area located in Williamson County, Tennessee. It's found near the towns of Franklin and Murfreesboro. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

History of College Grove

How College Grove Began

Williamson County was created in 1799. College Grove was one of the very first communities to form in this new county. Between 1880 and 1920, more people moved to College Grove.

College Grove During the Civil War

In the spring of 1861, a group of soldiers called the Webb Guards was formed. These soldiers came from College Grove and nearby towns like Triune and Bethesda. They became part of the 20th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry and fought in the American Civil War.

Life in the 1880s

By the 1880s, College Grove had about 100 people living there. The community had several businesses that were important for farming. There were three cotton gins, which separated cotton fibers from their seeds. There were also two mills that processed corn and sawed wood. People could buy supplies at two general stores, and a wagon maker helped with transportation.
