Conasauga is a small community in southern Polk County, Tennessee, United States. It is known as a CDP. A CDP is an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for collecting statistics. It is not an officially incorporated city or town with its own local government.
Conasauga is located about 1.2 miles north of the Tennessee-Georgia state line. It is also roughly 17 miles southeast of a larger city called Cleveland. Tornadoes and Community Impact
Conasauga was hit by powerful tornadoes on two different occasions. The first time was during the 1932 Deep South tornado outbreak. Another tornado struck the community on March 21, 1974. This second tornado caused damage to the local school building. Because of the damage, the school eventually had to close down.
A Sad Event in 2000
On March 28, 2000, a serious accident happened near Conasauga. A school bus from Murray County, Georgia, was involved in a collision with a train. This event occurred north of Tennga, Georgia, and was a very sad day for the community.
