Conisholme is a small village in Lincolnshire, England. It is part of the East Lindsey area. The village is located on the A1031 road. This road connects Cleethorpes and Mablethorpe. Conisholme is about 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Louth. The number of people living here is counted with the nearby village of Grainthorpe.
Life in Conisholme Village
Conisholme is about 3 miles (5 km) from the Lincolnshire coast. The village area covers about 1,240 acres (5 km²). Most of this land is open countryside. The A1031 road runs through a small part of it. The larger village of North Somercotes is to the east. The area of Conisholme stretches towards the Louth Canal. It also reaches North Cockerington in the south-west.
Local Government and Community
Conisholme is part of the Louth Marsh area for county council. It is in the North Somercotes area for district council. Both of these areas are represented by the Conservative Party. Robert Palmer is the local representative. He is also the Chairman of the East Lindsey District Council. This council helps manage local services.
The village has a church called St Peter's. It is part of a group of churches. This group includes churches in North Somercotes and Grainthorpe.
Wind Turbines at Fen Farm
Conisholme is home to a wind farm. It is located at Fen Farm, south-west of the village. These wind turbines create electricity. They can produce enough power for 24% of the homes in East Lindsey.
How the Wind Turbines Work
Each wind turbine is very tall. The central part, called the hub, is between 165 and 252 feet (50 and 77 meters) high. The blades, or rotor, are 157 feet (48 meters) across. The total height of each turbine is about 292 feet (89 meters). Each turbine can make 800 kilowatts of electricity. The whole wind farm is run by a company called Ecotricity. It creates enough energy to power 13,000 homes.
Building the Wind Farm
Famous architect Norman Foster designed these turbines. They were built by a company called Enercon. Construction started in December 2007. The wind farm was finished on April 17, 2008.
Unusual Incident at the Wind Farm
On January 4, 2009, one of the twenty wind turbines was damaged. This event happened in the early morning. The story was even reported on BBC News. Ecotricity investigated the damage. They looked at many possible reasons for it. These included a lightning strike or a collision. They also considered problems with the turbine's design or materials. The company stated that unusual causes were very unlikely.
