Conus chaldaeus, also known as the Chaldean cone, is a type of sea snail. It's a marine gastropod, which means it's a kind of mollusk that lives in the ocean. This snail belongs to the Conidae family, often called the cone snails.
Just like other cone snails, Conus chaldaeus is a predatory animal. This means it hunts and eats other small sea creatures. These snails are also venomous. Their sting can be harmful to humans, so it's very important to be careful and avoid touching them if you see one alive.

What Does the Chaldean Cone Look Like?
The shell of the Chaldean cone snail can be anywhere from about 19.7 mm to 59 mm long. That's roughly the size of a small button to a golf ball.
Shell Colors and Patterns
The main color of the shell is white. Sometimes it has a slight pinkish tint. It usually has three or four bands that go around the shell. These bands are made up of dark brown or almost black markings.
These dark markings often cover most of the shell. They usually leave an uneven white band in the middle. Sometimes, the dark spots are raised, making the white parts look bumpy. Occasionally, the whole shell can be dark brown, except for the white band and a few white spots.
Top of the Shell and Opening
The top part of the shell, called the spire, also has these dark markings. The opening of the shell, known as the aperture, is white. It has cloudy bands that match the patterns on the outside. The shell's surface has small lines all over it. These lines become more noticeable near the darker bottom part of the shell.
Where Do Chaldean Cone Snails Live?
This marine snail lives in warm ocean waters around the world.
Ocean Habitats
You can find Conus chaldaeus in the Red Sea. They also live in the tropical Indo-Pacific region. This includes areas near New Zealand and Australia. In Australia, they are found off the coasts of New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia.
They are also present in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. This includes countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama.
