Corey Harris is an American musician born on February 21, 1969, in Denver, Colorado. He is known for playing blues and reggae music. Corey is a talented guitar player and singer. He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.
In the mid-1990s, Corey Harris, along with other musicians like Keb' Mo' and Alvin Youngblood Hart, helped bring back the popularity of acoustic guitar blues. He was also featured in a TV show called The Blues in 2003. This show was a mini-series on PBS and had an episode directed by famous director Martin Scorsese.

About Corey Harris
Corey Harris grew up near Denver, Colorado. He went to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and finished his studies in 1991. Later, in 2007, he received an honorary degree from the college.
When he was in his early twenties, Corey received a special scholarship called the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. This allowed him to travel to Cameroon to study languages. After that, he taught in Napoleonville, Louisiana, as part of the Teach For America program.
His Music Journey
Corey's first solo album was called Between Midnight and Day. It came out in 1995. A producer named Larry Hoffman discovered Corey in 1994 and helped him make this record. The album included songs by famous blues artists like Muddy Waters.
His second album, Fish Ain't Bitin', won an award in 1997. It was named the Best Acoustic Blues Album of the Year at the W. C. Handy Awards. This album was recorded in New Orleans and featured Corey's own songs. He sang and played guitar, and some songs even had a cool sound from a tuba and two trombones.
In 2002, Corey worked with a musician from Mali, Africa, named Ali Farka Toure. They made an album together called Mississippi to Mali. This album mixed blues music with Toure's music from northern Mali, creating a unique sound. Corey also contributed to a tribute album for Johnny Cash in 2003.
Travels and Influences
Corey Harris has spent a lot of time living and traveling in West Africa. These experiences have greatly influenced his music. He has performed all over the world, including Europe, Canada, West Africa, Japan, and Australia.
He is known for playing music by himself on an acoustic guitar. He also plays with his electric band, which used to be called '5 x 5' and is now known as The Corey Harris Band.
Corey also helped other musicians. He worked with Billy Bragg and Wilco to create the music for a song called "Hoodoo Voodoo." This song was on an album called Mermaid Avenue. All the songs on this album used lyrics written by the famous folk singer Woody Guthrie. Corey also played music and sang on this album and its follow-ups, Mermaid Avenue Vol. II and Mermaid Avenue Vol. III.
In September 2007, Corey Harris received a very special award. He was named a MacArthur Fellow by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. This award is given to talented people who show great creativity. It came with $500,000, paid over five years, to help him continue his amazing work.
