Cornell is a small, unique community in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains, California. It's located in the western part of Los Angeles County. This quiet spot is about 5 miles (8 km) west of Agoura Hills and 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Malibu. Once a busy place from the 1910s to the 1950s, Cornell is now very quiet. Only a few buildings and one restaurant remain from its busier past.

Exploring Cornell's Unique Geography

Cornell is a special neighborhood with pretty homes along the famous Mulholland Highway. It's also close to Malibou Lake in a peaceful mountain area. It's mostly surrounded by big parks that are part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. These include Paramount Ranch and Peter Strauss Ranch parks. The old Paramount Ranch used to be a 'movie ranch' where films and TV shows were made. You can still see 'Old Western' sets there!

Cornell is known for its tall oak and pine trees, which make it feel like a forest. Many colorful peacocks also roam freely here, sometimes even perching on rooftops! A lot of homeowners in Cornell have land for horses. They enjoy riding on the many horse and hiking trails that lead into the surrounding parklands.

You can find Cornell between Agoura Hills and Malibu. The easiest way to get there is by using Kanan Dume Road. This road connects to the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu (to the southwest) and the Ventura Freeway (101) in Agoura Hills (to the northeast).

Cornell gets its cable TV and trash pickup services from Malibu. However, its water and electricity come from Agoura Hills. The town uses the same ZIP Code as Agoura Hills, which is 91301.
