History of Corning

Corning was first set up in 1868. It was built along the main railroad line that connected Kansas City, Missouri and Council Bluffs, Iowa. This train line is still used today.

A post office served the village from 1868 until 1964. For many years, from 1882 to 1980, a special train line (called a spur) ran between Corning and Clarinda, Iowa. This line was first known as the Tarko Valley Railroad.

An important old building in the village is St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. This means it's a special place worth protecting.

In 2019, Corning was affected by big floods that happened across the Midwestern United States.
