Quick facts for kids Costa del Maresme |

The Costa del Maresme is a special part of the coast in Catalonia, Spain. It's the coastline of the Maresme region and covers sixteen towns, stretching from Montgat all the way to the mouth of the Tordera River near Malgrat de Mar. To the north, it meets the Costa Brava, and to the south, it touches the Costa de Barcelona.
This beautiful coast is nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and a mountain range called the Catalan Coastal Range. These mountains act like a shield, protecting the coast from cold northern winds. The Costa del Maresme is famous for its long, sandy beaches, charming fishing villages, and towns that have welcomed tourists for many years. It's known for its warm, gentle weather and beautiful Mediterranean scenery. Many people from big cities have even moved here to live, enjoying the relaxed coastal life.
There are five marinas (places for boats) along this coast. Fishing is a big deal, especially around Arenys de Mar. That's why Arenys de Mar and Sant Pol de Mar are officially recognized as important fishing villages by the Catalan Tourism Agency.
Explore the Beaches of Maresme
The Costa del Maresme boasts 54 beaches and coves, stretching for about 55 kilometers (that's over 34 miles!). Most of these beaches have sand that's not too fine, not too coarse.
You can find all kinds of beaches here! Some are busy urban beaches with lots of services like restaurants, bars, and even casinos. Others are more natural and quiet, far from the towns. Many beaches have won special awards:
- The Blue Flag means they are very clean and safe.
- The Biosphere award shows they care about nature and being sustainable.
- The Q for Tourist Quality means they offer excellent services for visitors.
Some towns are even certified as "Family Beach" destinations, offering special facilities and activities perfect for families.
