Country Style Food Services, Inc. is a popular chain of coffee shops in Canada. It used to be called Country Style Donuts. You can find their stores mostly in Ontario, where they are one of the top coffee chains. They serve yummy things like coffee, oatmeal, sandwiches, salads, and soup. Their main office is in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Where You Can Find Country Style

Country Style has many locations across Canada. In 2006, there were 120 regular stores in Ontario. They also have over 420 "non-traditional" spots. These are smaller shops found inside other places. You might see them in gas stations, convenience stores, sports arenas, or even movie theatres.

Most customers love their coffee! In fact, in 2001, over 70% of what people bought was coffee. Overall, Country Style has more than 1000 locations. These are spread across Ontario, Western Canada, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick.

The Story of Country Style

Country Style started way back in 1963. Their very first shop opened in Toronto. The company grew quickly in its early years. They opened 100 stores within the first 15 to 20 years!

By 1974, Country Style had 50 shops. At that time, it was the biggest coffee and donut place in Canada. It was even bigger than Tim Hortons for a short while. Tim Hortons became bigger two years later.

Country Style tried to expand into Western Canada in the 1970s. They opened stores in cities like Vancouver and Calgary. They also expanded to Eastern Canada in the early 1980s. However, these new stores didn't do very well. Because of this, Country Style had to close many of them. Only a few stores in Alberta lasted into the 1990s. In the East, only some in Nova Scotia and PEI remained.

By 2001, Country Style faced tough competition. They had to close about a quarter of their stores. But since then, they have opened many new ones. Today, they are one of the top coffee chains in Canada. They are behind Tim Hortons and McDonald's.

On November 1, 2011, a company called MTY Food Group bought Country Style. MTY Food Group is now the parent company.

Changing Looks and New Menus

In the mid-1990s, Country Style updated its logo. The new logo used a font that looked like Palatino. This was different from their old handwriting-style font.

In 2006, Country Style changed its image again. They wanted to look more modern and fancy. They called this new style "Country Style Bistro Deli." This change included a new logo and a new website. They also added more deli items to their menu. These changes were slowly brought to all their stores. The new logo still used a font similar to Palatino.

New Country Style stores have a more modern design. They look a bit like Starbucks shops. These newer stores offer a wider range of food. You can find wraps, smoothies, breakfast items, salads, and sweets. In 2009, MTY Food Group bought the rights to the Country Style brand.

In 2017, Country Style stores in the Philippines got a new name. They were rebranded as "New Bistro Deli."

Helping Others

Country Style also does good work for charity. In April 2003, they teamed up with the Make a Wish Foundation. This foundation helps make wishes come true for children with critical illnesses. Since then, Country Style and its store owners have raised over a quarter of a million dollars for the foundation.
