The County of Churchill is a special kind of area in Queensland, Australia. It's called a county or a "cadastral division." Think of it like an old-fashioned way of dividing up land. Even though it's called a county, it's not used for everyday government like towns or cities are today. Its main job is to help keep track of who owns what land, especially for official land records.

This county is located in the West Moreton area of Queensland. It stretches from about 152°E to 153°E longitude, reaching as far east as parts of Ipswich.

The County of Churchill was named after a famous person named Lord Randolph Churchill. He was born in 1849 and was a well-known British politician. He was also the father of Winston Churchill, who later became a very important Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War II. The Surveyor-General of New South Wales decided on the name in 1850. Later, on March 7, 1901, the area's boundaries were officially set by the Governor in Council under a law called the Land Act 1897.

What are Parishes?

Counties like Churchill are often divided into smaller areas called parishes. These parishes are also used for keeping land records organized. They help make sure that every piece of land has a clear location and owner.

The County of Churchill has many parishes within it. Some of these parishes include towns or suburbs you might know. For example, the Brassall Parish includes areas like Brassall and Leichhardt. The Gatton Parish includes the town of Gatton. These smaller divisions help local governments and land offices manage the land more easily.
