The County of Stanley is a special area in South Australia. It is one of 49 "cadastral counties" in the state. Think of these as older ways to divide land for official records and maps.
This county was officially created in 1842 by Governor George Edward Grey. He named it after Edward Stanley, who was a very important person in the British government at the time. Stanley was the "Secretary of State for the Colonies" from 1841 to 1845. This means he was in charge of all the British colonies, like South Australia. He helped South Australia get financial support in 1842, which was very important for the young colony.
The County of Stanley has clear boundaries. To the south, it's near the Wakefield River. To the east, it follows the general path of the Barrier Highway. In the north, it reaches latitude 33°28' S, and in the west, it's between longitudes 138°08' and 138°15' E.
Understanding Hundreds
Within the County of Stanley, the land is further divided into smaller sections called "hundreds." These "hundreds" are like smaller districts or townships within the larger county. The County of Stanley has 16 of these smaller areas.
