History of Coupland
How Coupland Started
The story of Coupland began in 1859. A man named Morgan C. Hamilton bought a lot of land near Brushy Creek. When he passed away in 1883, he left his land to his nephew, Theodore Van Buren Coupland.
In 1887, Mr. Coupland sold some land for a new railroad track. This railroad was called the Taylor, Bastrop and Austin Railroad. Soon after, two men from Taylor created the Coupland City Corporation. They divided the land into smaller pieces to sell. This is how the community of Coupland began!
Becoming an Official City
For many years, Coupland was a small, unofficial community. But on November 6, 2012, something big happened! The people of Coupland voted to become an official city. This was a special day because it was also the 125th anniversary of the town's founding.
After becoming a city, Coupland held its first city council elections. This happened on May 13, 2013. Jack Piper was elected as the first mayor of Coupland.
