Coventry is a small town located in Chenango County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,655 people lived there. The town got its name from Coventry, Connecticut, because many of the first settlers came from that area in New England. Coventry is in the southern part of Chenango County, just northeast of the city of Binghamton.

History

The first people settled in Coventry around 1785. This was near where the main village of Coventry is today. The town of Coventry was officially created in 1806. It was formed from a larger area that used to be part of the town of Greene. Later, in 1843, Coventry grew even bigger when parts of Greene and the town of Oxford were added to it.

Because the soil wasn't great for growing many crops, people in Coventry focused on raising dairy cows. This started way back when the first pioneers arrived. At one point, there were five different factories in the town that made butter and cheese!

A historic building called District School 4 was recognized for its importance in 2004. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
