Craignure (Scottish Gaelic: Creag an Iubhair) is a small village in Scotland. It is located on the Isle of Mull, which is part of Argyll and Bute. Craignure is very important because it is the main place where ferries arrive and depart on the island.

Where is Craignure?

Craignure is found on the east coast of the Isle of Mull. It sits right next to Craignure Bay. Around 200 people live in this village. Not far from Craignure, you can find two interesting castles: Torosay Castle and Duart Castle.

How to Get Around Craignure

Craignure is a busy place for travel, especially because of its ferry port.

Ferry Travel

The first pier (a landing place for boats) in Craignure was built way back in 1894. The pier used today was built later, in 1964. Ferries travel regularly between Craignure and Oban, which is on the Scottish mainland. These ferries are run by a company called CalMac.

During the winter, ferries usually run 3 to 5 times a day. In the summer, when more people visit, they can run up to 10 times a day. This makes Craignure a key link for people traveling to and from the Isle of Mull.

Road Travel

Craignure is located on the A849 road. This road connects Craignure to other places on Mull, like Salen and Fionnphort. You can also catch buses from Craignure to different parts of the island, including Fionnphort and Tobermory.

Old Railway Line

Craignure once had its own railway station called Craignure railway station. It was part of the Isle of Mull Railway, which was a special narrow gauge railway. However, this railway is now closed.
