History of Crest Hill
Crest Hill has an interesting past. One of its neighborhoods, called Stern Park Gardens, changed its name to Lidice in 1942. This was done to remember a terrible event called the Lidice massacre.
Important people like Wendell Willkie, who once ran for president, and Edvard Beneš, the president of Czechoslovakia at the time (who was living outside his country), spoke at the special event to remember the tragedy.

Crest Hill is located at coordinates 41°33′52″N 88°6′31″W / 41.56444°N 88.10861°W. The people of Crest Hill decided to form their own city to avoid being taken over by the nearby City of Joliet.
Crest Hill officially became a city on January 22, 1960. The city covers about 9.17 square miles (23.75 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
