Crete is a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. It is a suburb located south of Chicago, about 30 miles from the city center. Crete is also only 6 miles from the Indiana border. In 2020, about 8,465 people lived there. The village was first called Wood's Corner. It was started in 1836 by Dyantha and Willard Wood, who came from Vermont.

Crete is found at these coordinates: 41.455910 degrees North and -87.618798 degrees West.
The village covers a total area of about 9.6 square miles (24.9 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 9.6 square miles, is land. Only a very small part, about 0.017 square miles, is water. Crete is located about 2 miles (3 kilometers) west of Illinois Route 394. It is also within 40 miles (64 kilometers) of downtown Chicago. A nearby area called Willow Brook Estates uses Crete's postal code. It is seen as an eastern part of the village.

In 2021, the people living in Crete were mostly White (57.8%). About 31.8% were African American. Smaller groups included Native American (0.3%) and Asian (0.5%). About 0.3% of people identified as Multiracial. People who identified as Hispanic or Latino made up 8.7% of the population. About 3.6% of people in Crete were born outside the U.S.
About 18.5% of the people were under 18 years old. Only 3.3% were under 5 years old. About 26.6% of the population was 65 years old or older. More than half the population, 53.3%, was female. From 2017 to 2021, there were 486 veterans living in Crete.

All public schools in Crete are part of the Crete Monee Community Unit School District 201U. This district includes elementary, middle, and high schools. The schools serving the village of Crete are:

- Balmoral Elementary School (for students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade)
- Crete Monee Middle School (for students in 6th through 8th grade)
- Crete-Monee High School (for students in 9th through 12th grades)
Illinois Lutheran is another school in Crete. It serves students from pre-kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. This school is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
Governors State University is also nearby. It is located in University Park, which is right next to Crete.

Crete has some interesting places to visit:
- Balmoral Park Racetrack is located in Crete.
- There is a forest preserve called Plum Creek (Goodenow Grove). This park is great for outdoor activities. In winter, you can go ice skating and sledding. In summer, it's a good place for hiking. (Even though it's close to Crete, Goodenow Grove officially has a Beecher, Illinois address.)
