How Crown Royal Began
Crown Royal was created in 1939 by Samuel Bronfman. He was the head of a company called Seagram. He wanted to make something special for the 1939 royal tour of Canada. This was when King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, visited Canada. It was the first time a reigning monarch had visited the country.
At first, Crown Royal was only sold in Canada. This lasted until 1964. After that, it was introduced to the United States and other places around the world.
Where Crown Royal is Made
Crown Royal is made at a large factory called a distillery. This factory is located in Gimli, Manitoba, right by Lake Winnipeg in Canada. Every day, the factory uses a lot of rye, maize (corn), and barley. These ingredients come from Manitoba and nearby areas.
The process also uses a huge amount of water. This water is naturally filtered through the rocks under the lake. After the whisky is made, it is stored in many barrels. There are about 1.5 million barrels in 50 warehouses. These warehouses cover a large area of land. Finally, the whisky is mixed and put into bottles in Amherstburg, Ontario.
Crown Royal was also made in Waterloo, Ontario, for some time. However, that factory closed in 1992.
