Cuba City is a small city in Wisconsin, a state in the United States. It's special because it's located in two different counties: Grant County and Lafayette County. Cuba City has a cool nickname: "The City of Presidents." This is because you can see banners of U.S. presidents all along its Main Street!

Cuba City's Early Days

Cuba City's story began in 1836. That's when John Amie Merle and Mathais Comstock bought 160 acres of land from the American government. This land was in Grant County.

The very first building in the area was put up in 1846 by Jack Deboard. Many people consider Deboard to be the first person to settle in what would become Cuba City.

How Cuba City Got Its Name

When the community was first growing, there was a disagreement about what to call the new village. They finally decided on "Yuba City." However, they soon found out that another place already had that name. So, they chose a new name: "Cuba City."

Becoming a City

Cuba City officially became a village in Grant County in 1894. Later, in 1925, it changed from a village to a city. Between 1960 and 1970, a small part of the city also became part of Lafayette County.
