Cutler was a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It was founded by early settlers and existed from 1883 to 1915. Most of the original town later became part of the Charles Deering Estate.
After 1915, the area next to the estate became known as the Cutler census-designated place (CDP). This was a special area used for counting people in the 2000 census. Later, this area joined with the Village of Palmetto Bay. In 2000, about 17,390 people lived in Cutler.

History of Cutler
The area where Cutler was located was first called the Hunting Ground. This name came from Native American tribes who used the land for hunting for a long time. In 1838, the United States Congress gave this large piece of land to Henry Perrine.
In 1864, John and Mary Addison moved to the Hunting Ground. They built a home there. By the 1870s, people started calling the area Addison's Landing.
In the early 1880s, a man named Dr. William C. Cutler visited the area. He liked it so much that he bought 600 acres of land. In 1882, Dr. Cutler convinced his friend, William Fuzzard, to move there. Fuzzard built a two-story wooden house in 1883.
In 1884, Fuzzard and other settlers created a path from his home to Coconut Grove. This path later became famous as Old Cutler Road. By the end of that year, about 75 people lived in the settlement. A post office named "Cutler" was set up near a dock in the northeastern part of the town.
In 1896, the people of Cutler built a schoolhouse. That same year, Samuel H. Richmond built a large, two-story house. This house was known as the Richmond Cottage. In 1899, it became the only inn in the area.
Factories, stores, and other buildings were located where S.W. 168th Street and S.W. 72nd Avenue are today. The post office moved to the Brown & Moody General Store.
However, in 1903, the Florida East Coast Railway built its tracks a few miles west of Cutler. This new railroad went through a town called Perrine. Because of this, Cutler started to decline. Farmers and settlers moved closer to the railroad.
Between 1914 and 1917, a man named Charles Deering bought most of the land in Cutler. He made it part of his large estate. All the buildings in the town were torn down, except for the Richmond Cottage. Deering kept the cottage as part of his estate.
New neighborhoods slowly started to grow near the Deering Estate in the 1960s. By the late 1970s, the area west of the Estate was fully developed. This became the Cutler CDP. In 1986, the State of Florida bought the Deering Estate after Charles Deering's last daughter passed away.
On September 10, 2002, the Village of Palmetto Bay was officially formed. It included the land that was once the Cutler CDP. It also took in the eastern part of Perrine.
