Cyril Takayama, born on September 27, 1974, is an amazing American magician. He has French, Moroccan, and Japanese family roots. Cyril is super famous for his incredible magic shows, especially in Japan.

Cyril's Early Life
Cyril grew up in Hollywood, California. His dad was from Okinawa, Japan, and his mom was French with Moroccan family. Both his parents were hairdressers.
When he was 15, Cyril faced some challenges in school. His father sent him to Japan. Cyril got off the plane during a stop in Tokyo and started performing magic on the streets of Shinjuku. Sometimes he had very little money and could only afford one meal a day.
Becoming a Magician
Cyril tried to connect with other magicians in Japan. At 17, he met a rich Japanese businessman named Ito. Ito hired Cyril to perform magic at his hotel several days a week. Cyril performed for weddings and parties for two years. He even created his own stage magic show in just two months!
Ito also helped Cyril join magic events and competitions.
- In 1991, Cyril won a top prize from the International Federation of Magic Societies (FISM). This is a big international group for magicians.
- In 1992, he joined the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
- In 1994, he won another FISM prize.
- In 2001, Cyril and his partner Jane won the Golden Lion Award. This was at Siegfried and Roy's World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas.
- In 2007, he won first place in The Magic Woods Awards for Best Magician.
Cyril's Amazing Career
Cyril became interested in magic when he was six years old. He saw a magic show in Las Vegas where a magician made a woman float and cut himself in half!
His first magic performance was at his junior high school's talent show. When he was 12, he joined a special program for young magicians at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
Famous Magic Tricks
Cyril has many famous tricks that amaze people.
- He can make a hamburger appear from a menu.
- He makes his head look like it falls off his shoulders!
- He can make a playing card go through a window.
One of his most exciting tricks happened above the Circus Circus hotel. He bungee jumped into the hotel pool with a sword. Then, he speared a chosen card from a deck floating in the water!
Cyril even performed magic using the video game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. He surprised the audience with his tricks.
Because he is so popular in Japan, Cyril often wears a disguise. His most famous disguise is "Sero jisan" (セロ爺さん), which means "Old Man Cyril."
Since 2005, Cyril has become very popular in Japan and online. Many of his magic shows are uploaded and watched on YouTube. People even call him "Magic's first cyber celebrity."
Cyril's Appearances
In 2006, Cyril visited Thailand to perform magic for orphans with HIV. He also put on a show for kids in a faraway part of Nepal. He performed some magic acts for a small crowd near Tribhuvan International Airport.
He appeared on the MTV series called Room 401 in 2007. In this show, magicians play pranks on people who don't expect it. On May 31, 2008, he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards in Japan.
Cyril doesn't only work on television. He travels all over Japan performing big stage magic shows. These shows are called "Magic Revolution: The Xperience."
He also had a small role as a magician in the movie Redbelt.
Recently, he has appeared in new shows like "Cyril Simply Magic" and "Cyril's Family Vacations." His newest shows are "Cyril Rio Magic" on AXN.
In 2010, he was a speaker and performer at the Essential Magic Conference in Portugal.
On August 26, 2012, Cyril performed an illusion with Hong Kong movie star Andy Lau. This was at the Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2012.
