Darryl Lynn Hughley (born March 6, 1963) is an American actor and stand-up comedian. He is well-known for hosting ComicView on BET from 1992 to 1993. He also starred in the TV show The Hughleys on ABC/UPN. D. L. Hughley was also one of the "Big Four" comedians in The Original Kings of Comedy.
He has hosted D. L. Hughley Breaks the News on CNN. He was also a reporter for The Jay Leno Show on NBC. In 2013, D. L. Hughley competed on Dancing with the Stars. He finished in ninth place.

Early Life
D. L. Hughley was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. His parents are Audrey and Charles Hughley. Charles worked for Delta Air Lines. D. L. is the second of four children. His family moved to South Central Los Angeles when he was very young.
Hughley had a difficult time during his teenage years. He was expelled from San Pedro High School. However, he decided to make a change in his life. He earned his GED, which is a high school equivalency diploma. After that, he got a job with the Los Angeles Times newspaper.
Career Highlights
From 1992 to 1993, Hughley was the first host of ComicView. This was a stand-up comedy show on BET. In 1993, he also appeared on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He played Will's friend, Keith Campbell.
From 1998 to 2002, Hughley created, produced, and starred in The Hughleys. This TV show was based on his own life. It showed his African-American family living in a fancy neighborhood. In 2005, he released a comedy album called "D.L. Hughley: Notes From The GED Section". He also had a short talk show on Comedy Central called Weekends at the D.L..
D. L. Hughley is a famous member of The Original Kings of Comedy. He also had roles on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Scrubs. In 2008, he hosted the BET Awards. He also gave a speech at the funeral of his friend and fellow "King of Comedy," Bernie Mac.
In June 2010, Hughley was a special guest host on ABC's The View. He also appeared on TBS's Glory Daze. He was a guest host for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Hughley has written several books. His first book, I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up, was published in 2012. His second book, Black Man, White House, came out in 2017. In 2018, he released How Not to Get Shot. His fourth book, Surrender, White People, was published in 2020. His latest book, How to Survive America, was released in 2021.
He started hosting his own talk show, The D.L. Hughley Show, on TV One in March 2019.
Hughley on CNN

D. L. Hughley hosted a comedy news show on CNN. The show was called D. L. Hughley Breaks the News. It covered news about politics, entertainment, sports, and pop culture. The first episode aired on October 25, 2008.
In March 2009, CNN announced that Hughley would end the show. He wanted to work in Los Angeles to be closer to his family. He continued to work with CNN as a contributor from Los Angeles.
Radio Career
Hughley has also worked as a radio host. In July 2009, The D.L. Hughley Morning Show started on WRKS (98.7 Kiss FM) in New York City. His co-host was Jacque Reid. His show was on at the same time as Steve Harvey's show.
In August 2010, Kiss FM stopped airing his show. Hughley then moved on to other projects. In August 2013, Reach Media announced a new deal with D.L. Hughley. He would host a new nationally syndicated afternoon radio show. This show is also called The D.L. Hughley Show.
Personal Life
D. L. Hughley is married to LaDonna Hughley. They have two daughters, Ryan and Tyler, and a son, Kyle. Hughley has spoken publicly about his son Kyle having Asperger syndrome.
On June 19, 2020, Hughley collapsed during a performance in Nashville, Tennessee. It was reported that he collapsed from exhaustion. Later tests showed that he had COVID-19.
Hughley became an honorary member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity on July 30, 2020.
