Derryck Gleaton (born August 30, 1988), known as DSharp, is an American musician. He is a talented violinist, DJ, singer, and music producer. DSharp is famous for his bright, colorful violins. He lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
DSharp creates his own music and also plays popular songs. He mixes different styles like hip hop, electronic dance music (EDM), and classical music. He has performed in many countries around the world. These places include Amsterdam, Dubai, London, the Philippines, and Sweden.
He has shared the stage with famous artists like Smokey Robinson. He has also played with well-known DJs such as Kaskade, Afrojack, Chuckie, Nicky Romero, R3hab, and Sebastian Ingrosso. In 2012, DSharp played on four songs for rapper Rick Ross's album God Forgives, I Don't.
In 2009, the University of Alabama asked DSharp to compose a special piece of music. This music was for the opening of a new African-American art collection. In 2015, he filmed a music video in New Zealand. He worked with Caroline Roffman, a skilled horse rider.
DSharp's Early Life and Music Journey
Derryck Gleaton was born in South Carolina. His parents are Don and Mae Gleaton. He grew up and went to school in Columbus, Georgia. DSharp started playing music when he was in sixth grade. He wanted to play the trumpet for a class, but he could not find one. Instead, he borrowed a viola and started learning that instrument.
He quickly became good at the viola. He even earned a spot in the Greater Columbus Youth String Orchestra. Later, his family moved to Anniston, Alabama. There, he had a private teacher named Bill Brazelton. Mr. Brazelton had played the viola and violin for 65 years.
DSharp's College and Career
DSharp continued to play music in Alabama. He performed with the Jacksonville State Community Orchestra. He also played with the Etowah Youth Orchestra. With this orchestra, he traveled to cities like Memphis, St. Louis, and London.
After finishing high school in 2006, DSharp received a music scholarship. He went to the University of Alabama. He became an ambassador for the university's Creative Campus program. In 2010, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He transferred to Georgia State University to continue his studies.
