Nick Rotteveel (born January 6, 1989) is a Dutch DJ and music producer. He is known by his stage name Nicky Romero or Monocule. He comes from Amerongen, Utrecht Province, in the Netherlands.
Nicky Romero has worked with many famous DJs. Some of these include Tiësto, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, and Avicii. He is well-known for his hit song "Toulouse". DJ Mag currently ranks him among the top 20 DJs in the world.

Early Life and Education
Nick Rotteveel grew up in Amerongen, in the Netherlands. For one year, he lived in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. After that, he moved back to the Netherlands. He finished his school studies in France.
Starting His Music Career
Nicky Romero began his music journey by signing with Once Records. He released his first songs, "Privilege" and "Qwerty." Soon after, he released "Funktion One" and "Hear My Sound."
In 2009, he started making remixes for other artists. He remixed Tony Cha Cha's "Get on the Floor." He also made a popular remix of David Guetta's "When Love Takes Over." These remixes helped him become more known in the music world. He was even asked by Ministry of Sound to create more remixes for them.
In 2010, Nicky Romero released a new song called "My Friend." This song was released on Spinnin' Records. It used a sample from the famous Groove Armada song of the same name. "My Friend" became very popular. Many top DJs like Tiësto and Axwell played it. The song reached number 4 on the global Beatport chart.
In 2011, Romero released many more remixes. He remixed songs for artists like David Guetta, Flo Rida, Nicki Minaj, and Kelly Rowland.
Becoming a Mainstream Success
Nicky Romero became very popular in 2012 with his song "Toulouse." This song stayed on the Beatport Top Ten chart for a long time. MTV recognized his talent. They named him an EDM artist to watch that year.
His fame grew quickly. He even had a special DJ residency with David Guetta in Ibiza for the summer of 2012. In October 2012, DJ Mag gave him the 'Highest New Entry' award. He ranked number 17 on their Top 100 DJs fan poll. This was one of the highest new entries ever.
In 2012, Romero worked with Swedish DJ Avicii. They created the song "I Could Be the One." This song was a huge hit in Europe. It reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in February 2013. It was the first number one song in the UK for both Romero and Avicii.

In June 2014, Nicky Romero released "Feet On The Ground." This song featured vocals by Dutch singer Anouk. Besides making music, he also supports charity projects. One project is '10,000 Hours – People Planet Party.' This project helps fix playgrounds for kids who need them.
His song "Legacy" was used by Australian TV channel Channel Seven. It promoted the show Revenge in 2014. The song became popular in Australia, reaching number 50 on the charts. In 2014, Nicky also partnered with Electric Family. They created a special bracelet. All the money from sales went to a foundation that helps fight cancer.
