Nick Rotteveel (born 6 January 1989), who is famous by his stage name Nicky Romero, is a Dutch DJ, musician, and record producer. He is known for creating exciting electronic dance music (EDM). He has worked with some of the biggest names in music, like David Guetta, Calvin Harris, and Avicii.

Romero is famous for his hit song "Toulouse" and his collaboration with Avicii, "I Could Be the One". He is often ranked as one of the top DJs in the world by DJ Mag. He also has another music project called Monocule, where he makes a different style of electronic music.

Early Life and First Steps in Music

Nick Rotteveel was born in the town of Amerongen in the Netherlands. For one year, he lived in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, before moving back to the Netherlands to finish school.

Romero began his music career by releasing his first songs, "Privilege" and "Qwerty." In 2009, he started to get noticed after remixing songs for other artists. A remix is when a producer takes an existing song and creates a new version of it. His remix of David Guetta's "When Love Takes Over" helped him become more well-known.

The year 2012 was huge for Nicky Romero. He released the song "Toulouse", which was a massive hit in the EDM world. The song's music video, featuring people in Guy Fawkes masks, became iconic. Because of his fresh sound, MTV called him an EDM artist to watch.

In October 2012, DJ Mag magazine named him the 'Highest New Entry' in their Top 100 DJs poll, placing him at number 17. This was a huge achievement for a new artist.

His biggest success came when he teamed up with the Swedish DJ Avicii. Together, they created the song "I Could Be the One". The song was a worldwide hit. It reached number one on the official music chart in the United Kingdom, which was a first for both Romero and Avicii.

Throughout 2013, Romero released more hit songs like "Symphonica" and "Legacy." He performed at the world's biggest music festivals, including Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, and Tomorrowland.

2014–Present: New Music and Projects

In 2014, Romero worked with the Dutch singer Anouk on the song "Feet On The Ground." He also showed his charitable side by helping with projects to build better playgrounds for children.

In 2015, he partnered with a lifestyle brand to create a special bracelet. All the money from the bracelet sales was donated to a charity that helps people with cancer. After taking some time to focus on his health and studio work, he returned with new music. In 2018, he released the song "Where Would We Be" with the singer ROZES.

Working with Pop Stars

Besides his own music, Nicky Romero has helped create songs for some of the world's biggest pop stars. This is called co-producing, where he works with other producers to make a track.

  • He co-produced the song "Right Now" for Rihanna's album Unapologetic.
  • He co-wrote and produced the song "It Should Be Easy" for Britney Spears on her album Britney Jean.
  • He worked with David Guetta again on his album Listen, co-producing the songs "Bang My Head" and "No Money No Love."
