Daichi Suzuki (鈴木 大地, Suzuki Daichi) (born March 10, 1967) is a famous Japanese backstroke swimmer. He is now retired from competitive swimming. He won a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
After his swimming career, Daichi Suzuki became a very important leader in sports. He was the first Chief Commissioner of Japan's Sports Agency from 2015 to 2020. He has also been the Chair of the Japan Swimming Federation and holds positions in international swimming organizations like Asia Aquatics and World Aquatics. Swimming Achievements
Daichi Suzuki helped develop a special swimming technique. It is called the underwater dolphin kick. In the United States, this technique was also known as the Berkoff Blastoff. This style of swimming involves staying underwater for a long distance. Swimmers use a powerful dolphin-like kick to move forward.
Suzuki was very skilled at this technique. He could swim 25 meters underwater during the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Four years later, he used this skill to win a gold medal. This was in the 100-meter backstroke race at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Another famous swimmer, David Berkoff, also competed in that race.

In October 2016, Daichi Suzuki became the Vice President of Asia Aquatics. This group oversees water sports in Asia. In July 2017, he was chosen as a Bureau Member of World Aquatics. This is a major international organization for water sports.
In 2021, a special announcement was made. The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) said that Daichi Suzuki would be honored. He was inducted into the ISHOF Class of 2021 as an "Honor Swimmer." This means he is recognized as one of the greatest swimmers in history. He was actually supposed to be inducted in 2020. However, the ceremony was postponed to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
