It is one of the many barrios (which means neighborhoods or districts) that make up the municipality of Bayamón. In 2010, about 2,831 people lived in Dajaos. It's a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.
History of Dajaos
Puerto Rico has a long and interesting history. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This was part of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Becoming a U.S. Territory
After the treaty, Puerto Rico became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is a part of the U.S. but does not have all the same rights as a U.S. state.
Early Population Count
In 1899, the United States Department of War took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 851 people lived in the Dajaos barrio at that time.
