Dani Stevenson's Early Life and Music Dreams
When Dani Stevenson was 12 years old, she moved from her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, to Harlem, New York. Moving to Harlem made her dream of becoming a singer even stronger. She started performing right away. She sang the National Anthem at a junior high graduation. Dani also entered many talent contests. In 1998, she performed at open mic nights in Greenwich Village. This is where artists can try out new songs.
Dani Stevenson's Music Career Journey
In August 2001, Dani Stevenson met a music producer named Rhemario Webber. They worked together to create a 10-song demo. A demo is like a sample of an artist's music. This demo helped her get a record deal with Universal Records in February 2002.
After signing with Universal, the record label had an idea. They suggested Dani sing background vocals for Nelly's song "Hot in Herre." This song came out in 2002. Dani agreed and worked with Nelly and producer Pharrell Williams.
First Album and Hit Songs
After "Hot in Herre" became a big success, Universal Records gave Dani the green light. She could now prepare her very first album! Dani and Rhemario Webber wrote 11 out of the 13 songs. They also included the songs from her earlier demo. Her first album was going to be called Is There Another?! It was planned to be released in March 2003.
The song "Honk Your Horn" was the first single from the album. It was produced by Missy Elliott. It came out on September 17, 2002. Even though it was released then, it didn't become popular on the music charts until October 2003.
On August 6, 2002, the soundtrack for the movie XXX was released. Dani Stevenson's song "Yo, Yo, Yo" was on it. This song was later released as the second single from her album on April 29, 2003.
By 2004, her album Is There Another?! still hadn't been released. Her singles also didn't make it big on the Billboard charts. Because of this, Dani Stevenson left Universal Records. Her first album was never officially released.
Later Music Projects
In 2006, Dani Stevenson worked with Norman Hedman's Tropique. She contributed to their album Garden of Forbidden Fruit.
In 2010, Dani signed a new deal with Starrlet Entertainment. She released a new song called "Wishing Well." A music video for the song also came out on September 6 of that year.
In 2011, Dani started working with Ruff Ryders rapper DMX. She sang on a song called "Tell Ya Friends." This song was a collaboration between DMX and a rap group called N.O.4. In December 2011, Dani was featured in the music video for "Tell Ya Friends." In 2012, Dani Stevenson was featured on DMX's album, Undisputed. She sang on the track "Sucka for Love."
